Heads up for Rain and What This Means for Your Pool
If you've lived in North Texas for more than a week, you know how fast the weather can flip. One minute it's blue skies and BBQ, the next minute it's pouring like you're on a movie set. And while that rain might cool things off, it’s doing a number on your pool.
Rainwater throws off your pool’s chemical balance almost instantly. It lowers chlorine levels, dilutes your carefully measured chemicals, and introduces fresh contaminants like pollen, dirt, debris, and even algae spores.
This is what we call the Rain–Shock Cycle — and understanding it is key to keeping your pool swim-ready, especially during stormy months.
So What Happens to Your Pool When It Rains?
- Contaminants flood in – Rain washes organic material from nearby trees, roofs, and yards directly into your water.
- Chlorine levels plummet – The added water dilutes chlorine, which means it can’t do its job.
- pH gets weird – Rainwater is naturally acidic, which means it throws your water balance off and stresses out your pool system.
- Algae sees a window – And when your chlorine level drops, algae throws a party.
So What Do You Do About It?
Shock your pool. It’s the fastest and most effective way to kill off bacteria, stop algae in its tracks, and reset your chemical balance before things get gross.
We usually recommend shocking right after a heavy rain or anytime you notice cloudiness or a funky smell. And yes, even if your water looks clear now — rain could still be stirring up trouble behind the scenes.
Don't Love the Smell of Granulated Chlorine in the Morning?
Good news: you don’t have to mess with it. We handle post-storm pool care all the time.
At MCCK Pools, we’ll test your water, balance your chemicals, check your filter, and give your pool the love it needs! Call mike today! 817-773-1035
Known but Unknown Pool Hacks (That Actually Work)
We searched far and wide in our early days as pool techs, eager to learn all the secrets. Back then, we were just employees—young, hungry, and soaking up every bit of knowledge we could.
What we learned? There’s no shortcut to crystal clear water. Just good, consistent basics.
But we did uncover a few nuggets that weren’t just myths...
Here are a few game-changers:
1. Tennis Ball/magic eraser in the Skimmer
They soak up oils like sunscreen, lotion, and hair products. Toss a couple in and let ’em float. Your water will thank you.
2. Run Your Pump at Night
Lower electricity bills, better circulation, and fewer bugs in the morning. It's a triple win.
3. Vinegar for Waterline Tile
White vinegar + a scrub pad = a simple fix for mineral lines and hard water stains between cleanings.
4. Regular Filter Cleans Save You Big Time
A dirty filter puts strain on your whole system. Regular filter maintenance keeps everything running smooth—and saves you money down the road.
5. Use a Pool Cover (Even in Summer)
A few hours a day makes a difference. Less debris, less evaporation, and less chemical loss.
These hacks are simple, but they stack up fast when done right.
The real hack? Letting a pro handle it before things go sideways.

A Day in the Life of a Pool Tech: What We Really Do at MCCK Pools
Ever wonder what it’s like to be a pool tech at MCCK Pools? It’s not just skimming leaves and calling it a day. Here’s what a real day looks like!
5:00 AM – Rise and Shine
The alarm goes off early. Before we touch a pool, we’re making breakfast, packing lunches, and getting the kids out the door for school. Family comes first—and it all has to happen before the truck rolls out.
7:00 AM – Load Up
With the morning hustle handled, it’s time to gear up. We load the truck with chemicals, test kits, brushes, nets, filters, vacuums—you name it. Everything we need to turn a green mess into a backyard paradise.
8:00 AM – First Pool of the Day
We start in Midlothian. The water looks clean, but the chemistry tells a different story. We balance chlorine levels, clean the filter, scrub the tiles, and leave the pool looking showroom fresh.
10:30 AM – Green Pool Emergency
In Mansfield, we’re called out to a green pool rescue. The water’s gone murky, but we know how to handle it. Test, treat, brush, repeat. We start the recovery process and bring the sparkle back.
12:00 PM – Lunch in the Truck
Quick lunch, check-ins, and route updates. Mike calls to coordinate a few extra stops—we’ve got time to help more neighbors today.
1:00 PM – Weekly Cleaning Clients
Time to visit our regulars in Arlington and Burleson. Skimming, vacuuming, water testing, adding chemicals, cleaning skimmer baskets—this is where consistency keeps pools healthy and safe.
4:30 PM – Final Call
We end the day in Cedar Hill with a full filter clean and final chemical check. It’s been a long one, but every pool is better than we found it.
5:30 PM – Home Again
Back to family. Back to the house. Maybe even a dip in our own pool if we’re lucky. Then it’s dinner, homework help, and a well-earned rest.

Are Pool Chemicals Safe? Here is what you need to know.
Keeping your pool clean means using special chemicals. These chemicals help keep your water clear and safe to swim in. But here’s the big thing:
Pool chemicals are not safe for kids.
They are strong. They can burn skin, hurt your eyes, and even be dangerous to breathe in. That’s why only adults should handle pool chemicals.
Here’s how we stay safe:
- LOCK CHEMICALS AWAY — where kids can’t reach them.
- Keep the lid closed tight — always.
- Never mix chemicals — it can cause dangerous fumes or even explosions.
- Use gloves and goggles when handling chemicals.
- Keep them away from pets too!
Don’t want to deal with this?
That’s what we’re here for. At MCCK Pools, we test and treat your pool water the right way every week, so you don’t have to worry about it.

Pool Filter Cleaning: What It Is, Why It Matters, and When to Do It
Your pool filter is the unsung hero of your entire system. While the pump moves the water, it’s the filter that keeps it clean, clear, and safe to swim in.
What is a Filter Cleaning?
Pool filters trap dirt, oils, pollen, and fine debris from your water. Over time, these particles build up and clog the filter, reducing its effectiveness and putting strain on your pump. Cleaning the filter removes this buildup, helping your system run smoothly and efficiently.
Why is Filter Cleaning Important?
A dirty filter can’t do its job. It slows down water flow, makes your pump work harder, and can lead to cloudy water, algae, and higher energy bills. Regular filter cleaning keeps your water crystal clear and extends the life of your pool equipment.
When Should You Clean Your Pool Filter?
We recommend cleaning your filter at least every 3–6 months, depending on your usage and environment. Spring is a high time for filter maintenance—especially after pollen season, heavy rains, and backyard activity.
Today, we’re out cleaning three pool filters across town. It’s that time of year when your system works overtime, and we’re here to keep things running at full strength.

Top Five Signs Your Pool Needs Professional Repair
Your pool should be a place of relaxation—not frustration. If you’re noticing issues, it might be time to call in the pros. Here are 5 common signs your pool needs professional repair, and how MCCK Pools can help:
1. Water Loss or Unexplained Leaks
If your pool is losing water faster than normal, it could be a leak. Leaks not only waste water but can also cause damage to your pool’s foundation if left untreated.
2. Strange Noises from Equipment
Unusual humming, grinding, or screeching noises coming from your pump or filter are a red flag. These sounds often signal failing components that need immediate attention.
3. Cloudy or Green Water
Even if you’re adding chemicals regularly, water that stays cloudy or turns green might indicate an issue with your filtration system—or a hidden maintenance problem.
4. Cracked Tiles or Pool Surfaces
Cracks in your tile, plaster, or decking can quickly go from cosmetic to structural. It’s best to have them inspected and repaired before they spread or worsen.
5. Weak Water Flow
If your jets aren’t as strong as they used to be, your circulation system may be struggling. Poor flow affects water quality and puts strain on your equipment.
Don’t wait until it’s too late.
If you notice any of these issues, call Mike today for a free repair estimate. MCCK Pools is licensed, insured, and ready to get your pool back to perfect.
